Longevity, Ageing and Dementia

A growing «dementia epidemic», driven by demographic change, will sooner or later have an unprecedented impact on the socioeconomic development of almost every country on earth. This situation is already becoming a challenge for developed nations, but it will affect emerging and developing countries too at some point in the foreseeable future.

To fully understand the future of dementia, we need knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

1. Global, regional and country perspectives – what are the scenarios for the prevalence of dementia?

2. Current and future strategies for dealing with this challenge from the medical, nursing, social and economic perspective.

3. What is the role of innovation at all levels of treatment and care?

4. Ethical and humanitarian implications of longevity – something that will certainly shape public and social policy discussions in the coming decades.
